TEDx events are intended to bring local communities together and showcase the ideas and innovations stemming from, and impacting, that specific community -- no one can do that as well as someone who is familiar with that area!
If your event is named after your school or workplace then you do not need to live in the same city as your school or workplace, you simply need to be enrolled at, or employed by, the place after which your event is named.
